The hidden gems of Oxford Street

As the best known shopping street in one of the world’s most iconic cities, London’s Oxford Street is packed full of household names and big brands. But if you look a little closer, you may find some hidden gems.

Looking for clothes that aren’t high street replicas? Try Japanese brand Uniqlo, a shop that offers functional and modern items for men, women and children, and it’s affordable too (170 Oxford Street, www.uniqlo.co.uk/uk). Further down the road is the Officer’s Club, a shop specialising in high quality men’s clothing, while Tezenis is the women’s’ equivalent (249 Oxford Street, www.tezenis.it/en). Another underrated shop on the famous street is Bershka, which offers a selection of international trends.

For shoppers looking for an accessory that stands out from the crowd, look no further than Hour Passion. Based at 427 Oxford Street, this boutique features 11 different Swiss watch brands, including Swatch, Calvin Klein and Longines (www.hourpassion.com). For shoes, you could always try Ecco, a brand with casual shoes for both men and women (455 Oxford Street, www.ecco.com).

Many individuals may feel like it’s not the clothes they wear that make them look good, but how they feel in them. GNC is another underrated shop on the world famous street, featuring a wide variety of health foods, supplements and vitamins (www.gnc.co.uk). Or if you feel like treating yourself or a loved one, there is always Arabian Oud (435-437 Oxford Street, www.arabianoud.co.uk/). The largest Arabian fragrance retailer in the world, they specialise in incense and oil perfumes.

Lastly, if you’re just looking for a few bits and bobs, try Muji (www.muji.co.uk). Based at 147 Oxford Street, it stocks everything from T-shirts and pens to kitchenware.
