Implants before and after Invisalign

Dental implants and Invisalign

As a specialist dental practice, we offer a wide range of treatments to improve the health and appearance of your pearlies.

Invisalign is a popular way to straighten teeth using clear aligners instead of metal brackets and wires. It’s almost invisible, and you can take your aligners out to eat, drink and keep your teeth clean.

We’ve helped thousands of people of all ages to straighten their teeth. Invisalign is especially sought-after by adults who want to transform their teeth discreetly and conveniently.

There’s no age limit for orthodontic treatment, and it’s not uncommon for older patients to have or need other dental work – including dental implants.

Can you wear Invisalign if you have a dental implant?

Dental implants are the ultimate way to replace missing teeth. They cleverly replicate a natural tooth using a titanium screw and porcelain crown.

Over time, the titanium screw integrates with your jawbone to create a long-lasting bond, while the porcelain crown looks and functions like a real tooth.

If you already have a dental implant, it’s attached to your jawbone, so we won’t be able to move it using braces. Usually, it’s possible to straighten your smile by aligning the surrounding teeth. In rare cases, we can straighten your teeth and then change the position of your implant if necessary.

Before we start your treatment, we’ll take detailed scans of your teeth using our iTero scanner. We’ll use these scans to create a 3D treatment plan, which will show you how your teeth will move and your projected result.

Can you wear Invisalign before getting a dental implant?

If you’re planning to get a dental implant, it’s the ideal time to straighten your teeth. We can move your teeth into the perfect position and coordinate your smile makeover from start to finish.

As well as making sure your teeth are positioned optimally for your implant, we can ensure the roots are in the correct place with plenty of space for your new tooth.

Depending on the position of your implant, we can use a temporary tooth to disguise your gap. Your orthodontist will liaise closely with your implant dentist to give you a seamless experience.

We include home teeth whitening with braces for every patient. We recommend whitening your teeth before your implant so that we can match the colour.

Once we’ve placed your implant, we’ll fit retainers to hold your teeth in their new position. Your implant won’t move, but your other teeth could start to shift without retainers. To keep your smile straight, you’ll need to wear your removable or fixed retainers indefinitely.

Should you get Invisalign before or after implants?

It’s usually best to straighten your teeth before a dental implant, so we’re not restricted by the position of your implant. Whatever stage you’re at, though, our experts can help you to transform your smile.
