We are delighted to offer our patients the innovative Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique as a treatment for gum recession.
Our specialist periodontist Dr Evdokia Chasioti is a Pinhole Surgical Technique certified doctor – and she was one of the first specialist periodontists to offer this pioneering treatment in the UK.
What is gum recession?
Gum recession is where the gum tissue shrinks away from the teeth, eventually revealing their roots as well as gaps or ‘pockets’ along the gumline. Our gums recede naturally with age but the process can be exacerbated by overly vigorous brushing, gingivitis and periodontitis.
Healthy gums are essential to good oral health and over time extensive gum recession can lead to problems such as tooth decay below the gumline and even tooth loss.
How can the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique help?
Traditional treatments for gum recession involve relocating tissue from one area of the mouth to another. The procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic, so it’s painless but nonetheless involves the use of scalpels and sutures.
The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique, however, uses specially designed instruments to loosen gum tissue so it can be gently pulled over any areas of recession. Patients can expect an instant improvement and very little swelling or pain following the procedure.
