4 London events you shouldn’t miss in May

As the summer weather finally seems to make an appearance, now is a great time to get out and about again. Luckily enough, London is one of the most eventful cities in the world, and gives us plenty of reasons to stay out. Here are 4 events you should not miss in May.

Museums at Night

Taking place from the 14th-16th May, Museums at Night is a biannual UK festival during which museums and galleries open their doors outside conventional opening times. Given the number of museums in the city, London is a great place to be in for the event.

As well as late openings, many places will be hosting special talks and exhibitions for the occasion, including the Bank of England Museum, the Charles Dickens Museum and the London Transport Museum. Needless to say, it’s all free.

FA Cup Final

Taking place at Wembley stadium, the Football Association Challenge Cup is the oldest competition in the world with the first edition going back to 1871.

This year’s final will be disputed between cup holders and North London club Arsenal and Aston Villa, who beat Liverpool to reach the final. The FA Cup final is always a great spectacle, with last year’s final finishing 3-2 to the Gunners. Get tickets if you can!

London Pet Show

The fifth edition of this annual event will be held at the ExCel centre for the first time this year. The fair is hosted by and for pet owners. Divided into zones, it’s a good opportunity for owners to get and share advice, including tips from Channel 4 vet Noel Fitzpatrick.

There will also be some entertainment from Rabbit Show Jumping to dog shows and cat shows. The closest Tube station is Canning Town. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the area.

Streetfest

A mixture of street music, art, dance, sport and fashion, Streetfest is the UK’s number 1 urban festival. If that’s not enough to convince you, there’ll also be plenty of delicious street food on offer.

The event takes place on Tobacco Dock, on Wapping’s riverbank. You can get a day family pass for £35, which includes 2 adults and 2 kids. Hurry up though, they’re going quickly.
